The region of Sarlat, in the Dordogne, is famous for its many prehistoric and natural caves, true historical and geological treasures. Here is an overview of some emblematic caves :
1. Lascaux Cave : Located in Montignac, about 25 km from Sarlat, Lascaux is one of the most famous decorated caves in the world. Discovered in 1940, it houses 17,000-year-old cave paintings depicting animals such as bison, horses and deer. To preserve the originals, a replica, Lascaux IV, offers a complete and immersive reconstruction.
2. Font-de-Gaume Cave : In Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, this cave contains magnificent prehistoric polychrome paintings, including bison and mammoths. It is one of the last caves still accessible with original works.
3. The Grand Roc Cave : Located near Les Eyzies, it is famous for its spectacular natural concretions, such as stalactites, stalagmites and draperies. It offers a fascinating underground landscape.

5. Domme Cave : The Domme Cave, located under the hilltop village of Domme in the Dordogne, is an impressive natural cavity discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. It extends over approximately 450 meters and is famous for its magnificent geological formations, such as stalactites, stalagmites, columns and draperies.
This cave offers visitors a fascinating spectacle with its illuminated limestone concretions, creating a magical atmosphere. At the end of the visit, a panoramic elevator takes you to the Domme belvedere, offering a spectacular view of the Dordogne valley.
