This medieval site is famous for its historical role as a place of pilgrimage since the 12th century, notably thanks to its Black Virgin, reputed to be miraculous, located in the Notre-Dame chapel.<\/p>\n<p>The village is distinguished by its picturesque streets, religious sanctuaries and its monumental staircase of 216 steps that pilgrims climbed on their knees. Among its treasures are the Basilica of Saint-Sauveur and the Chapel of Saint-Michel, both listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to its spiritual importance, Rocamadour attracts visitors for its spectacular beauty, its history and its gastronomy, notably the AOP \u201cRocamadour\u201d goat cheese.
