The region of Sarlat, in the Dordogne, is famous for its many prehistoric and natural caves, true historical and geological treasures. Here is an overview of some emblematic caves :<\/p>\n

1. Lascaux Cave<\/strong><\/a> : Located in Montignac, about 25 km from Sarlat, Lascaux is one of the most famous decorated caves in the world. Discovered in 1940, it houses 17,000-year-old cave paintings depicting animals such as bison, horses and deer. To preserve the originals, a replica, Lascaux IV, offers a complete and immersive reconstruction.<\/p>\n

2. Font-de-Gaume Cave<\/strong><\/a> : In Les Eyzies-de-Tayac, this cave contains magnificent prehistoric polychrome paintings, including bison and mammoths. It is one of the last caves still accessible with original works.<\/p>\n
